Countdown to “Jamaica 3” Reopening

October 14, 2026

Categories: Countdown | Resort Updates

It’s only about a month away before the first of the “Jamaica 3” reopens. The Jamaica 3 are: Sandals South Coast, Sandals Montego Bay, and Sandals Caribbean Cay. All 3 have been closed since Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica in late October of last year. Not only did the 3 resorts get a lot of damage from the hurricane, but Sandals decided that since they had to close them anyway, they’d upgrade them to what they call Sandals Two Point Oh.

The first to reopen is supposed to be Sandals South Coast on 18 November 2026 and we haven’t heard any rumblings that it will be delayed. That doesn’t mean that it won’t be delayed, it just means that we haven’t heard anything through the grapevine.

Sandals Montego Bay and Sandals Caribbean Cay are both supposed to open a month later on 18 December 2026. Again, we haven’t heard that either one will have their reopening postponed.

People have been taking pictures and videos of Montego Bay and Caribbean Cay from their plane as they leave Jamaica. From what we’ve seen, both resorts still have a fair amount of work yet to be done, but hopefully it’s mostly landscaping. The landscaping is the most obvious from the pictures and videos from the planes, but should be the quickest and easiest to complete. It’s hard to tell how the buildings are coming along. Sure, the outside of the buildings look OK, but you can’t tell how much work still needs to be done on the inside. And in the Sandals app, they still haven’t posted the menus for all the restaurants for either of the resorts, even the restaurants that aren’t being changed.

As for Sandals South Coast, there are no planes going over it so people aren’t trying to steal glances. But someone does post a drone video from time to time. A lot of progress has been made, most of the roofs are repaired, but there is still a LOT of scaffolding around some of the buildings. And they are still working on the main pool, but hopefully that can be completed quickly.

So even though the reopening of the three resorts is only a month or two away, and there’s still a lot of work to be done, we probably won’t hear about any postponements until the actual dates get much closer. Keep your fingers crossed, especially if you have a reservation for opening day or shortly thereafter.
