Yes, Insurance Again
I know I’ve posted about insurance before and that nobody (except maybe insurance agents) like insurance. It costs a lot, you hardly ever make a claim, and when you do try to make a claim, the insurance company does everything they can think of to deny you or make it so hard that you just give up trying.
But when it comes to traveling, especially to foreign countries, it can really save you a bundle, maybe even your life. Travel insurance can cover such things as:
- Concierge Service
- Hotline Assistance
- Baggage Delay Coverage
- Emergency Transportation (thus the life-saving mentioned above)
- Trip Interruption
- Baggage Loss/Damage
- Travel Delay
- Trip Cancellation
- and Emergency Medical
We know from experience that medical bills can add up FAST. A couple nights in the local hospital in Jamaica added up to thousands of dollars. If you need to get home but can’t fly commercial due to your medical condition, an emergency flight can be arranged on a plane equipped for such a thing (kind of like a Life Flight helicopter). I don’t want to even think about what that would cost! Such an evacuation could save your life by getting you back to the U.S. for treatment not available in a foreign country.
So when we go to a Sandals, we always purchase the offered trip insurance, and since we usually fly American Airlines, we even buy the travel insurance offered by them when booking the flights. It adds an extra expense, but if something goes wrong, you’ll be glad you have it!!!
