Island Spotlight – Antigua
Antigua was the second island to have a Sandals resort, named Sandals Grande Antigua, and it opened in 1991. The resort is only about 20 minutes or about 7 miles from the V.C. Bird International Airport, ANU.
First, a little description of the image above. That is the flag of Antigua using the shape of the island of Antigua as a mask. Kind of hard to tell, that’s why I added this little explanation.
The country name is actually ‘Antigua and Barbuda’ which are the two main islands, although there are several smaller islands also included as part of this sovereign nation.
The island of Antigua is known for its white sandy beaches, of which there are supposedly 365 of them, one for each day of the year. It is positioned where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Caribbean Sea and is part of the Lesser Antilles. Its capital is St. John’s, and the official language is English as it used to be a British Colony until its independence in 1981.
Sandals Grande Antigua is located on Dickenson Bay in the North East section of the island on what is claimed to be the longest beach on the island. As are all Sandals Resorts, it is exclusively all-inclusive with 11 restaurants and 7 bars.
