
Island Spotlight – Curacao
Curacao is in the Leeward Antilles and is part of the ABC islands, i.e., Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao. It is an autonomous country within the Kingdom of The Netherlands and is only about 40 miles north of Venezuela. The image above is an outline of the island with the flag of Curacao superimposed.
The capital city, Willemstad, Curaçao, is famous for its vibrant, candy-colored Dutch colonial buildings. The legend says that the buildings were painted these bright colors to reduce the sun’s glare that may have been causing migraines.
Sandals Royal Curacao (SCR) opened in June of 2022. It has eight restaurants and 13 bars, including a swim-up and overwater bar. Sandals Royal Curaçao is located at the end of a scenic 40-minute drive from Curaçao International Airport (CUR). Here is a picture of the main lobby:
