Island Spotlight – The Bahamas
The Bahamas country is made up of more than 3,000 islands, cays and islets. It’s located in the Atlantic Ocean north of Cuba and north-west of the island of Hispaniola. Its official name is the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.
It is home to the Sandals Royal Bahamian (SRB) resort located in Nassau on New Providence Island. There used to be another Sandals resort, Sandals Emerald Bay (SEB), in Exuma, but that was closed in August 2024. It is supposed to reopen as Beaches Exuma, but no timeframe has been published.
Sandals Royal Bahamian has 10 restaurants, 2 food trucks, and 8 bars, including 3 swim-up bars. SRB also has its own private offshore island which is a resort unto itself, including private beach, pool, and seafood restaurant. And since it is the northernmost Sandals resort, it isn’t as hot as the others. As a matter of fact, if you like heat, you may want to go further south in the winter months. The sun will be nice and warm, but the air could be too cool for swimming if there’s a breeze.
The unique thing about SRB is that this is the place where you can swim with the pigs. No, they aren’t at the resort! You have to go on an excursion off resort to see them, but it is a huge draw for tourists.
