Sandals / Jamaica Update
On October 28, 2025, Jamaica was impacted by Category 5 Hurricane Melissa, causing widespread damage to parts of the island. Our team at Darlene’s Travel Services has been closely monitoring the situation and staying in direct communication with our resort partners to keep our clients informed with accurate, up-to-date information.
At this time, all but three Sandals resorts in Jamaica have reopened. Sandals South Coast (aka Whitehouse), Sandals Montego Bay, and Sandals Royal Caribbean remain closed and are expected to reopen in May. According to Adam Stewart, Sandals’ Executive Chairman, these three resorts sustained the most severe damage. Sandals is using this closure period to make major updates and improvements, ensuring guests return to even better experiences when the resorts reopen.
Beyond the resorts, the impact on local communities has been significant. Many Jamaicans lost their homes, roofing, clothing, and essential personal items, and some areas are still without reliable electricity and running water.
If you are traveling to Jamaica, we encourage you to consider bringing a few additional items that can truly make a difference. Helpful items include solar battery packs, standard battery packs, crank radios, flashlights, tarps, personal hygiene products, baby wipes, diapers, Clorox wipes, and shelf-stable food items such as sardines, soups, rice, and energy bars.
If you have questions about upcoming travel, resort status, or ways you can help while visiting Jamaica, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Darlene’s Travel Services. We are here to support both our travelers and the destinations we love.
