Island Spotlight – Barbados

Barbados is an eastern Caribbean island and an independent British Commonwealth nation. It is part of the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies and the easternmost island of the Caribbean region.  Around the island are beaches, botanical gardens, the Harrison’s Cave formation, and 17th-century plantation houses like St. Nicholas Abbey.  Being a British Commonwealth, not unexpectantly, the national sport is Cricket.  Its capital and largest city is Bridgetown.

There are two Sandals resorts on Barbados, Sandals Barbados (SBD), and Sandals Royal Barbados (SBR).  They’re both only about 6 miles or 15 minutes from the main airport of Barbados, Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI).  Sandals Royal Barbados is slightly closer to the airport, but since the 2 resorts are actually connected, it’s not much closer.  And since they are connected, if you stay at one, you get to enjoy both!

Available at the two Sandals Resorts combined are 21 restaurants and 14 bars, including rooftop and swim-up bars.  Sandals Royal Barbados is the newer of the two resorts, built in 2017, and only has Club and Butler rooms, no Lux rooms.  Both resorts have swim-up suites but only Royal Barbados (of all the Sandals resorts) has a rooftop infinity pool and bar, and even a 4-lane bowling alley!!
