Plan for the Unexpected

Try to Plan for the Unexpected

It’s nice to go away on vacation, but you don’t want it ruined if something unexpected comes up.  Try to plan ahead.

What if you can’t return when you expected to?  Just a little while ago, the US Military went into Venezuela, which shut down airspace all over the Caribbean.  It took some people days to get another flight out.

So make sure you take a few simple precautions before you leave on your vacation:

  • Take enough of your medications for at least a few extra days if not an entire extra week.
  • Have email addresses for your boss, family, and baby / pet / house sitter.
  • Make sure you can use Wi-Fi calling in case cell service isn’t available.

With just these few simple things, you’ll be able to relieve some of the stress of the situation.  Extra meds mean you don’t have to find a pharmacy in a foreign country and try to get your doctor to send them a prescription. This could not only relieve stress, but could save your life depending on what medications you’re on.  Email addresses allow you to notify people that you’ll be delayed in your expected return date without worrying about making a lot of phone calls.  And if you do need to call people, Wi-Fi calling can be free or at least a lot cheaper than roaming charges in a foreign country.  Make sure you know if your cell carrier allows Wi-Fi calling and how to set it up before the emergency happens.

Your vacation is supposed to be your “adventure”.  Don’t let a hiccup turn that adventure into a bad adventure or even a total disaster!
