Travel Tip – Check Your Passport

The first thing you should do when looking to book a trip outside the United States is to check your passport.  Is it still valid, or has it expired?  Do you even know where it is?

Something a lot of people don’t know is that your passport must be valid for at least 6 months BEYOND your RETURN date!!!  That means the expiration date is at least 6 months after your planned date of return to the United States.

And most importantly, don’t forget to take it with you!!

We’ve heard too many horror stories of people getting to the airport and don’t have their passport, or it’s not valid, or it expires too soon.  You don’t want to miss your dream vacation because you “thought” your passport was OK.  CHECK IT before you book a trip!

Real ID: Real ID is slated to begin on May 7, 2025.  If you don’t want to pay extra to get a Real ID, then you’ll have to use your passport for ID, even on domestic flights.  This may lead to excessive handling and abuse, so try to be careful.  If your passport gets too beat up, they may not accept it and you’ll have to get a new one.  That’s even more expensive than getting the Real ID driver’s license.
